Captain Hunt has been serving as a law enforcement officer since 2007. Captain Hunt is a graduate from Basic Law Enforcement Training from Robeson Community College. Prior to law enforcement, Captain Hunt was a participant in High Point Police Department's Citizen's Academy.
Captain Hunt has worked for the Scotland County Sheriff's Office since March of 2017 and started as a Patrol Officer. Captain Hunt then worked his way up to becoming a Patrol Sergeant, Patrol Lieutenant and Lieutenant over the Sheriff's Office Community and Crime Programs. In 2019 he was promoted to Captain overseeing the Field Services Divisions.
Captain Hunt in addition to Scotland County, started his law enforcement career with the Lumberton Police Department as a Patrolman, and Red Springs Police Department where he served as a Patrol Sergeant.
Captain Hunt has earned many certifications to include Basic EMT, General Instructor, Hostage Negotiations, Intoxilyzer, Radar, Background Investigations, Community Policing, Crisis Intervention Training, General Instructor, Field Training Officer, Training the Trainer, and many more.
Captain Hunt enjoys spending time with his family, working on vehicles, and volunteering time in the community.

The Scotland County Sheriff’s Office Civil Section carries out the Sheriff’s statutory responsibility for the service of process and execution of writs. The Scotland County Sheriff’s Office provides Pistol Purchase and Concealed Carry gun permitting services as required by State and Federal Law.
Citizens may visit the Sheriff’s Office to apply for permits.
In an effort to provide better customer service to the citizens of Scotland County, the Scotland County Sheriff’s Office offers an Online Gun Permit Pistol Purchase Program and Online Concealed Carry Permit Program. These programs attempt to streamline the process and reduce the wait time for the Scotland County citizens.
The online program also allows the applicant to keep track of the application process by notifying the applicant via email at different levels of the process. It will also help insure you have all the correct documents you need to bring with you when you come to the Sheriff’s Office. Please note there is a $3.00 fee to apply on-line, and there is no fee to apply in person. The Records Division performs a variety of clerical duties for the Scotland County Sheriff’s Office. Their daily activities include public service, records maintenance, document production and data processing. They are in constant contact with the public in the office and by phone in order to answer routine questions, schedule appointments, issue gun permits, and assist with any office activities. They are also responsible for the maintenance of records, warrants, court orders, civil documents, and other related activities.

The Child Support Enforcement Division is a specialized division of the Scotland County Sheriff’s Office assigned to the Support Service Division.
The Child Support Enforcement Division was created by a contractual agreement between the Department of Health and Human Services Division of the North Carolina Department of Social Services, the Scotland County Board of Commissioners, and the Sheriff of Scotland County. This contract is renewed on an annual basis.
The Child Support Enforcement Division is comprised of a Lieutenant who serves all legal papers initiated by the Child Support Enforcement Agency; including contempt orders and arrest papers which the Judicial Authorities and the Child Support Enforcement Agency issue when deemed necessary.

The Health Department Security Officer is a specialized officer of the Scotland County Sheriff's Office assigned to the Scotland County Health Department

The Health Department Security Officer was create by a contractual agreement between the Scotland County Health Department, the Scotland County Board of Commissioners, and the Sheriff of Scotland County.This contract is renewed on an annual basis.
The Health Department Security Officer is comprised of a Deputy who provides law enforcement security to those that work at the Health Department and to the citizens of Scotland County who are visiting the Health Department.
