Reserve deputies are volunteer sworn officers who supplement and support full-time deputies in the agency during normal working conditions, special events and in emergency situations. Reserve deputies have the equivalent power of a full-time deputy, however while on duty they work under the supervision of the Sheriff.
The Scotland County Sheriff’s Office currently has 2 (active) Reserve Deputies. It is their duty to protect the lives and property of the citizens of Scotland County as well as those visiting our County. It is also the duty of the Reserve Deputy to answer all calls for service, investigate any criminal complaints, develop and arrest any suspects, and to help educate and facilitate crime prevention in each neighborhood.
To be sworn in as a Reserve Deputy the applicant must have completed an approved Basic Law Enforcement Training Academy according to the N.C. Sheriff’s Training and Standards Commission and hold a current Law Enforcement Officer Certification.
Please contact the Sheriff's Office Training and Recruitment Division for more information on the application process.
